2019 was a very busy year for exhibiting, with works in shows in The Beijing International Jewellery Art Exhibition, Heart Failure with Alliages Gallery Paris travelling to Munich, Madrid, Athens and How We Wear It, Washington DC.
It was wonderful to have my Kennedy Centre Brooch, commissioned for the How We Wear It show at the Australian Embassy in Washington DC, acquired into the Kennedy Centre permanent collection. Big thanks to the ANU School of Art and Design Gallery and Juan Riusech at Alliages gallery in Paris for organising these shows.
The Yield Bowl, from the Fold Yield exhibition at Bilk Gallery in 2018, was winner of the Established Category at Profile ’19, the 6th JMGA-NSW Contemporary Jewellery and Object Award. This work is now part of an Australian private collection.
Selected as a finalist in the 2019 Contemporary Wearables Biennial Jewellery Award in Toowoomba, QLD.
Also, proud to be a part of The Big Dry, an exhibition at Bilk Gallery. In previous years Bilk has celebrated the end of year with White Christmas. This year artists were asked to think of pressing issues which are affecting the wider community and Australia - the environment, water, biodiversity, wind and drought.
The works made for this show were very different to my usual folding and cutting works.
“These works are not pretty, but I hope they make it out into the world. I wanted people who live away from the drought and are just going about their business to look, too see the heartbreak and devastation. These works give the wearer a message to carry and leave the viewer feeling uncomfortable. This will hopefully lead to a conversation, a reminder that all is not well on the land”.
Carving aluminium and combining different materials to create three pieces that work as a group and stand alone as desolate statements.
